To help raise awareness of our ‘Hotline’ and further our work combating illegal content online, the Internet Watch Foundation aims to have its work widely embraced throughout national and local government as well as internationally.

 

We operate independently of Government, but are closely supported by the Home Office, the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (DBERR) and the Ministry of Justice as well as working with the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and a number of Parliamentarians, Peers and MEPs who take an interest in our work.

 

At the Home Office, the Rt. Hon. Jacqui Smith MP is Secretary of State and Alan Campbell MP is the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State with responsibility for crime, including e-crime.

 

Within the DCSF, the Rt. Hon. Ed Balls MP is Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families and Baroness Delyth Morgan has cross-Governmental responsibilities including child safety online. 

 

Our self-regulatory role with the internet industry links the IWF to the Rt. Hon. Lord Peter Mandelson, appointed Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform and Lord Stephen Carter CBE, Minister for Communities, Technology and Broadcasting (jointly with DCMS), whose responsibilities include the communications and content industries, electronics and IT services and better regulation.

 

The Rt. Hon. Andy Burnham MP is the DCMS Secretary of State and Barbara Follett MP’s role within the department includes responsibility for culture and the creative industries as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State.

 

At the Ministry of Justice, the Rt. Hon Jack Straw MP is the Secretary of State for Justice with Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Maria Eagle MP, having responsibility for the criminal justice system and its reform.

 

IWF is a member of the UK Council for Child Internet Safety and has a seat on the Council’s Executive Board.

 

Cross parliamentary Committees with relevance to IWF include All Party Parliamentary Communications Group (apCOMMS) and the Parliamentary Information Technology Committee (PITCOM); and the Information Society Alliance (EURIM) is a not-for-profit membership organisation, chaired by Margaret Moran MP, which works to support a globally competitive, socially inclusive and democratically accountable information society.
