FAQs on Cyberbullying

Question: I am being bullied over the internet, can you help me?
 
Answer: Cyberbullying falls outside the remit of the Internet Watch Foundation, however there are other organisations that may be able to help you: The NSPCC has set up a website called There4me with advice about what to do about cyberbullying and Directgov.uk also has some information and advice about cyberbullying. You should also contact the website host/owner about your problem as they may be able to help you. MSN have for example a set up an internet safety site, Websafe Crackerz, specifically designed by teens for teens with a facility for reporting online abuse of MSN’s products, including cyberbullying.
 
Question: I’m a teacher and I would like some advice on preventative methods for cyber bullying, can you help?
 
Answer: Cyberbullying falls outside the remit of the Internet Watch Foundation, however there are other organisations that may be able to help you: Teachernet has published some guidelines on how to tackle cyberbullying, as has Teachtoday, a website launched by the European Commission, in cooperation with leading telecoms and internet firms. Childnet International has also developed a set of resources called Know IT All, to help educate young people, parents and teachers about safe and positive use of the internet. The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) has also published some guidelines for schools on preventing and responding to cyberbullying: ‘Cyberbullying, A whole-school community issue’.
